The departmental faculty and management are continuously worked hard to take new steps for the betterment of the department in order to achieve the national and international standards of academic success. For this reason, currently a diploma program in the field of dietetics has been approved from PM&DC and it will launch in the year 2013. New faculty members have also been hired to enhance the quality of the department. The faculty also indulges in improving their knowledge and to play role in the practical advancement of nutrition field by doing efforts in publishing their research-based work in the journals. The students have been encouraged on the continuous basis to fully participate in the academic and extracurricular activities. The students show their full potential in day to day academic activities such as presentations, quiz activities, surprise tests, active participation in lectures.

INTRODUCTION

Numerous nutritional deficiency disorders ranging from protein malnutrition to specific micro-nutrients in certain areas of the country especially in Pakistan. These deficiencies have resulted in growth retardation, mental disorders and various types of physical disabilities. Beside micronutrient deficiencies, the incidences of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, obesity, hypertension and kidney and liver problems are increasing day by day due to unsafe and poor quality diets. This alarming situation demands to cure diseases with food. Realizing the importance of human nutrition in daily life and emergencies like earthquake, drought, famine and man-made disasters, the University Institute of Diet and nutritional Sciences started 5-years degree program leading to Doctor of Dietetics and Nutritional Sciences.

The main aim of the department is to produce manpower in the field of food science and human nutrition which will provide services in health departments, teaching and research, International Organizations, Private Sector, and Non-Governmental Organizations, Community Development Program etc. By consistent emphasis on experiential learning through laboratory studies, research-based learning, debate, and presentations, designed to enhance the student’s critical thinking, communication and collaboration, tackling of ill-defined problems, development of individual learning objectives and self-evaluation of performance.

The department offers various professional degree programs for the student’s community to provide them the latest techniques in the field of Diet & Nutritional Sciences worldwide. After completing this program, they can work in public and private sectors.

Dean Message

In March 2012 the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences was established which in December 2012 is marked with accomplishments in the areas of academia, research and extracurricular activities. Due to full support from the Chairman BOG, The University of Lahore, bold initiatives were taken for launching new departments this year.
